InDrive driver in Barranquilla would have stolen a user’s cell phone – Barranquilla – Colombia



A user of the transport platform InDrive reported being a victim of robbery by a driver of the application, in Barranquilla.

The terrible testimony was made known through social networks, where it is said that a high-end cell phone was stolen using a firearm to intimidate her, after getting into a vehicle as a user of the service.

On Twitter, a friend of the victim said that on May 16, 2023, the woman requested the service through the application at around 4:20 p.m., on a journey from La Cueva restaurant (Calle 59 with Carrera 43), towards his house.

“He took the service and in the Chiquiquirá neighborhood he took out a gun, showed him the bullets and told him to help him, that if he didn’t he would shoot him,” he wrote.

He continues narrating, that he “stole a black 128 GB Iphone 12, confiscated her bag and wallet. Finally, he asked her to unlock the cell phone and give her the code to change all the keys. She did this while she was subjected to it, she said no denounced because he knew where he was going”.

Likewise, the man, who appears registered on the platform under the name ‘Yilbert’, but without a cash number, would have threatened to “look for or send someone” to do her some harm.

It would not be the first time that he has robbed his passengers

This would not be the first time that the driver has commented on this crime, in which his victims, apparently, would be women who travel alone through the application. According to another complaint on networks, the same man would have robbed another passenger.

“He also robbed me, he put the gun to my head and asked me for the cell phone password and the iCloud password to be able to change it. He threatens his victims saying that he has their address and everything,” wrote a user on instagram.

In the same trill of the complaint, the application responded with a short message ensuring that “we are constantly working for the safety of both the driver and the user, soon our platform will improve user validation when registering in the app with facial recognition” .

Similarly, he recalled that the user can “count on the security button within the app” to announce or give notice if something is wrong during the tour.

Robbery figures in Barranquilla

According to figures from the Metropolitan Police of Barranquillapersonal theft in 2022 grew by 18% compared to 2021.

In that year, in the capital of Atlántico, between January and October 2022, 11,414 complaints of robbery were registered, with armed robberies being the most common, as well as tickling and beatings.
