The advertising was in a strategic site in Medellín.
It was located on Las Palmas avenue, very close to the exit of the Oriente tunnel.

With the accompaniment of the Metropolitan Police and members of the Undersecretariat of Public Space, the Secretariat for Women of Medellín dismantled a billboard where “it encouraged sex tourism and the objectification of women.”
Installed at kilometer 5 of Las Palmas avenue, descending roadway, it made reference to the bodies of women, for which reason Angélica Ortiz, Secretary for Women, assured that she would open the doors to sex tourism in the city.

“In Medellín we have all our eyes on sex tourism and we are not going to accept that girls and women continue to be objectified. We are not sexual objects.”Ortiz said.

We are not “asses” to sell. Together with the Police and Public Space, we dismantled a fence that encouraged sex tourism and the objectification of women.

The clearing of advertising, explained the official, was to comply with the Law 140 of 1994 that regulates visual outdoor advertising in the national territory and that “prohibits that this threatens the integrity and human rights of people”. On the fence you could read: “Medallo’s asses”

The performance of the Women’s Secretariat was celebrated by several users in networks who wrote: “Medellín cannot grow around sex tourism. Tourism yes, but sustainable, responsible and ethical” and “The main concern of Medellín today must be the sex tourism that is enslaving women in the city. Citizen and state action is urgently needed to abolish this practice.”
