Little Known Ways to Experience Pitalito, Huila

There is really no useful purpose in my explanation for finding myself in Pitalito, Huila, enough to say it was totally unexpected.

At the airport, I was given a couple of suggestions for lodgings in the city, but they seemed lukewarm at best. I was on my own. Alighting from the taxi just off the Central Plaza, I spied what looked like a reasonable gaff and went over to inquire about availability.

It was more than adequate and well located – Hotel Colonial. Before long I stepped out into the cool of the evening and took a walk around the plaza. It was busy in a calm way, in that there were a lot of people around, however, there was plenty of space for everyone. A delightful place to enjoy a drink and people-watch.

Next to this, it was easy enough to find a capital restaurant in The foremanwhich also had live music and where I enjoyed a delicious typical dinner.

Awakening early, I returned to the Plaza for coffee to make a plan for the day, and the very friendly waitress suggested The Mortiño waterfall. I had not heard of it, so went to the ever-faithful iPhone for details. I didn’t doubt to say yes, this would be the perfect way to spend the day!

So next, I commandeered a willy’s jeepa typical Colombian form of transport for the half-hour journey to Isnoswhich is the launching pad for entrance to this natural phenomenon.

The area has been developed well and is quite like a natural theme park as there are a variety of things to see and do.
There is a stunning view, with the water crashing down the side of the mountain. For those who like adventure, there is a glass-floored walkway extending out towards the waterfall. Also, too several high-altitude rides cross the gorge.
