Last week there was a strong clash between the Prosecutor’s Office and the National Government. The reason was that the investigative body gave a resounding no to the lifting of the arrest warrants for members of the Clan del Golfo and ‘Los Pachenca’.
It must be taken into account that in response to President Petro’s request to lift arrest warrants for criminal bosses of the Clan del Golfo and Los Pachenca, the Prosecutor’s Office made it clear that it cannot lift them because the law does not allow this procedure with groups that do not have status political and that can only be dealt with under a plan of submission to justice. In addition, Barbosa warned about the lack of State in some Colombian territories.
After this ‘slamming of the door’, President Gustavo Petro agreed with the Attorney General of the nation, Francisco Barbosa, who said no to the lifting of the arrest warrants for members of the Clan del Golfo and Los Pachenca in the framework of the so-called peace total. The president affirmed that he will hold a meeting with the senior official in this regard on January 30.
“I have spoken with the attorney general, he is right on some issues. We will talk personally on January 30 to avoid institutional disagreements on the path of peace, which is the right of Colombian society.” the president stated.
